Fellows wishing to do the July 2023 extension

Dates of Service Extension Option

California Volunteers (CV) announced that Fellows can extend their service term to Jul 31, 2024 (the original end date was May 2024) to help them reach the 450 hr. service goal. Each Fellow is in different circumstances and eligibility status. The July 31, 2024  extension may or may not be an option for some students. Also, choosing this July 2024 extension may affect your AY 24-25 Financial Aid package - if you are not enrolled in summer 2024 sessions. June/July extensions must be approved and confirmed by Meagan (ICCE/College Corps Staff).

Background - Why the July 2024 extension may impact AY 24-25 Financial Aid:

The living allowances and education awards – for all students – are coordinated by Financial Aid. Financial Aid have set dates per academic year. The end date of the program is May 31, 2024 and the last day of instruction is May 17,2024.

We strongly recommend that Fellows try to reach their goals of 450-hrs by May 31, 2024, if possible.

We want to support you to get you to the finish line! The Service Hours Completion Plan template was created to provide a visual guide and resource to assist you in planning out the next few months to hit your service hours goal. Please refer to your Service Agreement detailing living allowance suspension information. Additionally, College Corps Staff are consistently reaching out to and connecting with Fellows to support you before a living allowance suspension occurs. If you have any questions/concerns, please contact and talk to us!

Summer 2024 extension: Again, if you want to choose the July 2024 service extension, you must check in with College Corps staff (Meagan Prasad College Corps Program Lead). This option might not be an option for you based on your eligibility as well, you need to be aware of the potential impact on your AY 24-25 Financial Aid package.

Please note: The living allowance is contingent on Fellows staying engaged and consistently logging service hours throughout the service term.  Although there is a minimum of 48  hours per monthly timesheet, Fellows are expected to demonstrate that they complete the necessary hours per month to reach 300-450 hours by the end of their service term to receive the full living allowance. Those students who obtain 450 approved service hours will be eligible to receive the Education Award.

Current Fellows who reach a minimum of 300 service hours by the end of their service term are eligible to apply to Year 3 (Cohort 3). There will be 8-10 slots available for returning students, who will have a leadership role leading and mentoring a pod of Fellows.

For more information, please visit the Students: Eligibility & How to Apply webpage to learn more about the Year 3 structure, dates, and expectations. When you apply, there will be a question, asking you if you are a current Fellow. When marking yes, this will lead you to specific Year 3 questions.

Summer 2024 Extension: Supplemental Hours

Supplemental Hours are an opportunity for fellows to log hours outside of their host site during the summer extension period if one of the following applies:

  • Sites are closed for the summer break
  • Fellows are not in the SF area yet remain in the state of California
  • Fellows would like additional hours in concurrence with the service done at their primary host site.

There are a few requirements if fellows intend to serve at additional sites:

  • All additional service hours must be served in California
  • Service sites must be pre-approved by SF State College Corps staff and must be a non-profit or governmental organization.
  • You must not be paid for these supplemental hours. For example, you will be working at a summer youth camp, being paid as a tutor and/or counselor.
  • Additional service hours should be logged under the campus " SF State" as the service site, with the hours approved by SF State College Corps staff
  • If Fellows are wanting to service these supplemental hours outside their assigned primary site, it is the responsibility of the Fellow to find the sites and schedule service hours directly.

Please follow the link for more information. Please reach out if there are any questions.
