For Fellows
PROGRAM UPDATES + ANNOUNCEMENTS
Current Fellows who reach a minimum of 300 service hours by the end of their service term are eligible to apply to Year 2. There will be 8-10 slots available for returning students, who will have a leadership role leading and mentoring a pod of Fellows.
For more information, please visit the Students: Eligibility & How to Apply webpage to learn more about the Year 2 structure, dates, and expectations. When you apply, there will be a question, asking you if you are a current Fellow. When marking yes, this will lead you to specific Year 2 questions.
- If you missed the Fall 2022 training/workshops, you can still earn hours by viewing the recordings and then submitting a short reflection. Scroll down this webpage and view the TRAINING HOURS- Training/Workshops section. All Fall 2022 workshop recordings can be found there, as well as the reflection google form.
-
Fellows who attended the Governor Newsom Inauguration, you cannot claim hours for attending this event. However, you can claim one hour for submitting a reflection submission (include your photos of attendance). Scroll down this webpage and view the TRAINING HOURS- Training/Workshops section. All Fall 2022 workshop recordings can be found there, as well as the reflection google form.
In recognizing Fellows' efforts and addressing the challenges that many Fellows face in reaching the 450 hr service commitment, CV has announced some updates regarding graduating vs. program completion status.
Graduating from the College Corps Program
A fellow will be considered a graduate of the College Corps program if they:
-
Log at least 300 approved hours* by the program end date;
-
Stay engaged and consistently log service hours throughout the service term;
-
Participate regularly in cohort-building activities.
Graduates of the College Corps program are eligible to:
-
Receive a certificate of appreciation from the Governor;
-
Join the College Corps alumni network and LinkedIn alumni group;
-
Apply for a second year of the College Corps program.
Completion of the College Corps Program
A fellow will be considered to "complete" the College Corps program if they:
-
Log in 450 approved hours by the program end date
-
Stay engaged and consistently log service hours throughout the service term;
-
Participate regularly in cohort-building activities.
Fellows who "complete "the College Corps program are eligible to:
-
receive the Education Award;
-
Receive a certificate of appreciation from the Governor;
-
Join the College Corps alumni network and LinkedIn alumni group;
-
Apply for a second year of the College Corps program.
*Please note: The living allowance is contingent on Fellows staying engaged and consistently logging service hours throughout the service term. Although there is a minimum of 40 hours per monthly timesheet, Fellows are expected to demonstrate that they complete the necessary hours per month to reach 300-450 hours by the end of their service term. Those students who obtain 450 approved service hours will be eligible to receive the Ed. Award.
Dates of Service Extension Option
California Volunteers (CV) recently announced that Fellows have the option to extend their service term to Jul 31, 2023 (the original end date was May 2023) to help them reach the 450 hr. service goal. Each Fellow is in different circumstances and eligibility status. The July 31, 2023 extension may or may not be an option for some students. Also, choosing this July 2023 extension may have implications for your AY 23-4 Financial Aid package (more information to come).
We strongly recommend that Fellows try to reach their goals of 450-hrs by May 2023.
If Fellows are interested in this option, they must schedule a Zoom meeting with College Corps staff. This meeting needs to occur at the latest by Feb. 24, 2023.
If you have not done a 1:1 Zoom with College Corps staff (Jen Gasang, Executive Director of ICCE) in the month of Feb. 2023, you must schedule a Zoom meeting to occur by Feb. 24, 2023.
We want to support you to get you to the finish line! The Service Hours Completion Plan template was created to provide a visual guide and resource to assist you in planning out the next few months to hit your service hours goal.
All Fellows must submit a completed Service Hours Completion Plan. Again, if you want to choose the July 2023 service extension, you must check in with College Corps staff (Jen Gasang, Executive Director of ICCE). This option might not be an option for you based on your eligibility as well, you need to be aware of the potential impact on your AY 23-24 Financial Aid package.
Note: This Service Hours Completion Plan informs you of Part 3 - Payment Suspension Policy (effective Feb. 2023 pay period/timesheet).
If a Fellow does not log a minimum of 20 hours per [2-week] pay period for two consecutive pay periods*, then the Fellow’s living allowance payment will be temporarily withheld until the Fellow is again meeting the goals outlined in the above service Hours Completion Plan.
*Note: At SF State we pay out on a monthly pay period (2 weeks = 20 hours; 4 weeks = 40 hours)
*Please note:
-
The living allowance is contingent on Fellows staying engaged and consistently logging service hours throughout the service term. -
As indicated in 1:1 meetings with Fellows, email communications, and the AU 500 Canvas info. page, and this resource webpage, effective Feb. 2023 pay period/timesheet the CV Payment Suspension Policy will be implemented. For those, who did not submit their Service Hours Completion Plan, this CV statewide policy is still in effect.

Onboarding/Orientation
This section is to inform you of the College and University policies that may affect you. Knowledge of these deadlines and policies (viewed in the SF State Academic Bulletin) will help you navigate the bureaucracy of the University while helping you succeed and graduate in a timely manner. Policies can be intimidating sometimes, but they ensure an equitable, consistent, and reliable process for each student.
Please review this information for more detail on these policies. Approval of a petition from the instructor and/or Department Chair does not constitute automatic approval from the DUEAP Dean.
This information is subject to change.
You can find instructions on how to add, drop, swap, change grading options, and withdraw on the Registrar's Office website.
University & College Policies & Procedures
When is the deadline to drop the AU 500 course (spring 2023)?
- The AU 500 course is connected to the College Corps program but if you decide that you do not want to continue with the College Corps program but want to stay in the course, you can do so.
- The last day to drop a class without a ‘W’ grade is Friday, February 17 by 11:59 p.m.
What if I wish to withdraw from the course after the drop deadline?
In compliance with Academic Senate policy #S20-196, students have the right to initiate a course(s) withdrawal during one of the deadlines outlined below. A maximum of 18 units can be withdrawn, and a course can only be repeated once after receiving a failing grade.
Although instructors are encouraged (not required) to drop students by the February 16 faculty drop deadline (either for not attending the first class meeting, not participating in the course during the first three weeks, and/or not meeting course criteria), dropping a course is ultimately the student’s responsibility at SF State (SF State Bulletin and #S20-196).
Please review Dropping & Withdrawing for policy guidance as well as things you should consider prior to requesting to withdraw
Change Grading Options
If students would like to opt to take the course CR/NC, please see the below link for guidance. NC does not impact your GPA.
